a Kindle Cover

February 16, 2012 By Taylor 9 Comments

You know I like to make covers for things… Nook Covers, Silhouette Covers, Casserole Covers, Camera Strap Covers… the list goes on. Well, I’m at it again. When my sister’s friend asked me to make a cover for her new Kindle Fire, I was all over it. I used the same pattern from my original Nook Covers and you can read all about that HERE. The ETSY shop is called Birdiful Stitches and I highly recommend the pattern! ( I have no affiliation with her, just like her pattern :)

I love to mix fabrics with busy patterns so I used three for this one,

and now it makes me want a new one too.

And while we are on the subject of E-Readers (kind of) I never cared for reading before my Nook. I mean I wouldn’t do it, now I love it. Did that happen to anyone else?  I just finished the Hunger Games Series. OMG, never have I loved a middle-school-aged book since my love for The Giver. I couldn’t put it down and I might or might not be counting down the days until the movie come out.

Girl Clothes

September 7, 2011 By Taylor 7 Comments

Say whaaaat? It’s true, I made some girl clothes a few weeks ago.

Finn’s friend had a birthday and I took it as an opportunity to make girl clothes :) Here is how the conversation went in my head. “Oh your daughter wants a certain toy and will be bored if she has to open clothes? Welp, I have two boys and would like to make a skirt.” I think it’s the perfect situation- I get my two funny, rowdy, crazy boys and I will make all of our girl friends dresses so I won’t have to miss out on that. One thing I will gladly miss out on… the drama-filled, moody, teenage girl years.
I used Dana’s Simple Skirt Pattern for the skirt. Her pattern is for 3-4T so I just subtracted 2 inches or so for a 2T. It was really easy and quick.

For the top, I started with a plain off white t-shirt. Ironed fusible web to a scrap piece of the skirt. Cut out the letter “K” and ironed it in place. Then I hand embroidered around the edge of the letter. Lastly,  I added a little heart just to girl it up even more.

I added a taylormade tag.

And wrapped it up.

Rawr! Dino Pattern

September 2, 2011 By Taylor 5 Comments

Last week I got the chance to be a Pattern Tester for See Kate Sew‘s latest pattern. Jealous? Cause I was so excited, I love Kate’s Blog. She has original ideas and she has great tips for sewers of all skill levels. So I opened the pattern that she emailed over and it was a cute little Dino… presh! Here is how mine turned out…
Isn’t he so cute? His name is Hippie and Clyde loves him.The pattern was fun to make and simple. Quick too, you know how I love a quick project. I also added a hand embroidered a peace sign and Clyde’s initials.
You can check out See Kate Sew’s Shop for the pattern and check out her Blog too, cause its awesome :)
I will leave you with this…
Cute boy.

Nook Covers Part 2

June 29, 2011 By Taylor 5 Comments

Happy Wednesday! I posted about my Nook Covers a few weeks ago HERE. I received quite a few emails and questions about the pattern and if I had a tutorial. Answer… I don’t because I actually purchased one on Etsy. I was going to make my own but I figured for $6 I would save myself some time :) The Etsy shop is called Birdiful Stitches. I love the pattern; it was really easy to follow, quick to sew and she even says you can resell them.
So, I made my third one last night; this time for my mom. I used my Silhouette with the iron-on interfacing and cut the bird out of fabric. Then I sewed it to the front cover before piecing the whole thing together. I found a picture of a bird on a branch that I liked from google images. Then I used the trace feature. Read my “How to Trace Tutorial” HERE.
I added an extra leaf and of course my Taylor Made Label to the back.
I love a good easy project that only takes a few hours but feels like you really accomplished something!
