Manhattan Valentine Dress

February 4, 2016 By Taylor Leave a Comment

manhattan valentine dress

My poor boys. I used to make them Valentine’s Day shirts but lets me honest, dresses are more fun :) And what is Valentines day without a new dress right?

I have had the Manhattan Blouse by See Kate Sew on my to-sew list for months. Something else I have wanted for months? That Fruit Dot Print!! ( The Fabric is Cotton & Steel Fruit Dots in Peaches Orchid and you can find it HERE) I decided this print would make the most perfect Manhattan Top/Dress!

Manhattan Valentine dress

I just extended the skirt part of the pattern by about 3-3.5″ in length to make it a dress, super easy.

I have been hoarding that Anna Maria Horner Little Folks panel for so long (color is Square Dance Citrus). When I hoard something for more than a few years I have a really hard time cutting in to it but I felt like this was so perfect, right?!

I went with a citrus button on the back, I just love the little opening. I love sewing baby dresses because they are so quick… too quick for me to get sick of them before I’m done :)

And as usual Bee LOVES her new dress! Perfect for pushing your baby doll in the stroller, throwing pom poms and twirling! What more can a girl ask for?!

The Succulence Lillian Dress

February 2, 2016 By Taylor 12 Comments

Welcome to day two of the Succulence Blog Tour! That’s right… today I have the lucky job of showing off a brand new fabric line by Bonnie Christine! I have been a fan of Bonnie’s work for so long, all of her patterns are so beautiful (I even used some of them in Bee’s Nursery) and I have taken two of her courses. She’s super talented and it’s quite the honor to be taking place in her latest Blog Tour!

Lets talk about the gorgeous line, Succulence! Succulents represent the ability to thrive and constantly create new growth through absorbing even the tiniest bits of water. Bonnie pays homage to this perseverance through a study of these plants in vibrant hues of earthy plum, sunlit copper and both pristine & opaque greens.

I was drawn to the green floral aka “Rosette Rain” (obvious if you know me) and I knew it would make a perfect Lillian Dress. Both the fabric and pattern have a bit of a 60’s flair to me! I love this pattern by Haley from Welcome to the Mouse House (you can find it HERE) and even though it looks a little advanced it’s a really fun sew! I especially LOVE the way the pintucks look with this fabric!

The Succulence line is now available HERE and at other online retailers… if you have never felt the quality of Art Gallery cotton then you are missing out! PS how adorable is the back?

I had to bribe my model with crackers because 19 month old models can be so particular. She has two older brothers so she loves things like balls and trucks and being outdoors but this girl loves a girly dress!! When I was trying it on her for size she couldn’t stop twirling and was mad when I took it off… I call that at success :)  I love that after years of sewing for her she’s finally starting to love the things I make her!

I can’t wait to get my hands on some more Succulence soon and make a million more baby girl dresses!

Floral Avery Dress and a Giveaway!

December 3, 2015 By Taylor 3 Comments

floral avery dress

Who can resist a cute toddler in a floral dress? I can’t thats for sure :) I jump at the chance to “girl” up my girl whenever I can so when ModKid Boutique asked me to participate in the Merry Modkid Blog Hop of course I said yes!

Bee was in need of some more long sleeved dresses since were (finally) going into winter over here so I thought the Avery Dress would be perfect! I also love patterns that are girly but still a little bohemian. And don’t get me started on these fringe boots.

The Avery is a drop waist dress and there are actually 3 sleeve lengths and a few extras like a pocket and belt loops. I went with one floral fabric all over (it’s a Voile that I found at Joanns) but the pictures of the contrasting peter pan collar were adorable too! I also am a sucker for anything with a lot of buttons… 7 to be exact.

I wish I would have sized up because I think she will only be able to fit into the dress this season; which only means one thing… she will be wearing it a lot :) But that’s OK because its perfect for playing with dolls, or taking your bow off to play swords with your brothers!

Overall we both love the dress! She might not keep a bow in her hair but sister loves a good twirly dress!

Infinite A-Line Dress

May 29, 2015 By Taylor 11 Comments

Hi, My name is Taylor and I’m a gingham-a-holic. I can’t get enough this summer. I spotted this light purple gingham a few months ago and I was saving it for the perfect project… well I found the perfect project! Meet your favorite new girl pattern… The Infinite A-Line Dress! Bonnie from Whisk’em is the talented designer and she emailed me a few weeks ago asking if I would participate in her Blog Tour for her first ever pattern. I have made a LOT of sewing patterns but this one is super smart y’all! I can’t even believe this is Bonnie’s first pattern.

The idea behind the pattern is that it is a jumping off point for any a-line dress that you see in a store and you can customize it to make it your own. It has three skirt choices, five sleeve options, two back options and two pocket styles! You can mix and match and use a variety of fabric. When I sew a homemade dress I make sure to size up because my kids grow super fast and I don’t want them growing out of my handmade clothes as soon as they do in store bought. Bee is just now in 18 mo clothing  so I sized up and went with the 2T making it pretty big on her. My husband even told me she looked a little prarie-esque in her baggy gingham but I love gingham so much that I’m fine with it :) I also want to say that my kids are not skinny and sometimes patterns are on the skinny side.. but this one is definitely true to size.

I took to Instagram and polled everyone about my button choice… the winner was the yellow heart button and I’m so glad cause it’s perfect.

The bodice is fully lined and Bonnie even taught me a really cool new technique (with a video that comes with the pattern) on how to attach the dress to the bodice. The pattern is for 12 mos-8 years. I went with the flutter sleeve and gathered skirt (version D) this time but I already have ideas for more… It’s calling for some pom pom trim. Thanks for having me Bonnie and congrats on a beautiful pattern!
