make a baby girl gift set

I am in that time of my life in which every month I know someone having a baby, and I love it! I know new moms need “registry gifts” but when I was pregnant I really remembered the people who got me something original and different. I also had two colic-y babies who went through about 15 burp cloths, bibs and onesies a day! So, that’s my go to handmade gift. Any combination of the 3 make the perfect baby gift set, you just can’t have too many! Save the cute outfits for when they are older am I right?

Being the spit up expert that I am – I became a burp cloth connoisseur (should I add that to my resume?). Hands down the BEST BURP CLOTHS ever are the Gerber Cloth Diapers. No, Gerber does not know I’m saying this, I wish they did, but I just love them that much! They are the perfect weight, size, texture… I could go on. But a white cloth diaper is kind of boring so I always have to make them pretty.

I talked about how I make them in a previous post HERE. But it’s really simple! For these I just cut a piece of fabric a little larger than the middle section. I traced with a pencil on the wrong side of the fabric to measure the correct size. Then I used my serger and serged the edges, if you don’t have one you could just fold under to make a hem. Then I sewed them down. Easy.

I paired these with a burp cloth. I use my own template because I like them a little longer than average.

I just free-handed the initial and used wonder under with a zig-zag stitch all the way around.

Has anyone used this style of burp cloths? Trust me, if you give this at a shower, the mom will be calling you in a few months asking for more :)

The Frozen Fox

Meet The Frozen Fox. My boys love band aids, what kid doesn’t? I’ve seen these little mommy-made ice packs around blogland and thought it would be a great little surprise. Now, when someone gets hit (by their brother) they have a little something to take their mind off of it.

All you need is the Frozen Fox Template, fabric, felt and a button. Click on this picture to enlarge,save and then print it off.

Cut everything out.

Place everything on the front of the fox face. Pin it and sew.

For the ears: pin the inner white part on top of the larger fabric ear and sew. Then get the other large fabric ear and put right sides together. Sew around the two longest sides leaving the bottom open and flip.

Sew a button to the face right where the white cheeks meet.

With the white sides of the ears facing down, place the ears on the face lining up the edges.

Then place the other side of the face right side down on top of the fox. Pin all the way around and leave the bottom open.

Sew around the fox. On the bottom, leave a 2″-3″ opening. Clip the corners and flip right side out.

Pour rice in to the opening at the bottom. I tried both beans and rice… I like the rice better but the beans are a little heavier, and both will work. (husband’s man hands not mine haha)

Hand sew the bottom up to close the fox :)

TaDa! Now you have a very easy mom tool right in your freezer :)

a Casserole Carrier… again

I need a 12 step program! I just can’t stop making casserole carriers. Previous Posts HERE, HERE and HERE.

But, really who doesn’t love a handmade gift? My friend got married this past weekend and I thought this would be the perfect thing! I like the inner fabric as much as the outer fabric.

I have used the Two Little Hooligans tutorial so many times, I could do it in my sleep! I never add the spoon holder and I switch the straps up like Jill did HERE.

The star of the show is the etched Pyrex inside… its so fun to see your new name etched on something. It hard to see but I added the “est. 2013” after the name this time.

I also started adding a little info about the carrier and the Pyrex because people were asking me questions about the care.

Confession… I started 3 more just for back up! I know this is a popular project on Pinterest so has anyone made one? Post the link, I love to see the fabric combos :)

Scalloped Bunting Tutorial

Two bunting tutorials in a row… what is going on over here? I didn’t even mean for that to happen but what can I say, I love bunting! Remember THIS “Shower” baby shower we threw my cousin. I actually made this bunting back in April and it now hangs in the window at Ampersand !

I love buntings and I also love scallops so this seemed like a perfect match for our rain cloud decor. Its really simple and quick to whip these out.

Scalloped Bunting Tutorial:

Start with a piece of cardstock and make a scallop template. Then fold your fabric and cut as many as you can at a time… haha, this tutorial will give you a little glimpse into my non perfectionist ways.

See my non-straight lines, my husband would die!

Then two by two, pin them- right sides together.

Sew around the bottom rounded side. Leave the straight side open.

Once you have them all done, snip the rounded sides up to the seam and flip them right side out. Then press.

As for hanging them, you could make your own bias tape but I just bought a pack of white for this bunting. Sandwich the flag between the bunting and sew :)

Super easy custom party decor! Is anyone else bunting obsessed?
