Baby Boy Gift Set

February 5, 2014 By Taylor 3 Comments

baby boy gift set

Hands down, handmade baby gifts are my favorite. Moms love unique handmade gifts and I love doing quick and easy projects, it’s a win-win. Last week I went to my friend Jamie’s Baby shower for her soon to be little boy. I have a bunch of cute boy fabric so I knew I had to make him some burp cloths.

I have talked a lot about my love for THESE cloth diapers HERE, when I made my last baby gift. I always have a pack or two on hand because they make the perfect burp cloth! Most moms contact me within a few weeks asking for more :)

I also added a few boy onesies from my Etsy Shop. Bikes and lightning bolts, you can’t go wrong there.

I wrapped them in brown craft paper and added a sticker so it looked professional :) boy gift set

And there you have a very simple handmade baby gift! If you have any need for custom burp cloths, email me at taylor.taylormade@gmail.com or contact me on my etsy page! I have started making a lot of custom ones for my friends and they are a big hit :)

Speaking of babies… our gender appointment is this Friday!! AHH! We didn’t find out the gender for our boys so this is a first for us, I am so exited to see if a brother or sister will be joining us this summer! 2 more days :)

The Boys Shared Room

October 24, 2013 By Taylor 10 Comments

When we moved this summer, the boys really showed an interest in sharing a room. I loved the idea but was tentative because I didn’t know how well it would work. They are 18 months apart but one is a night owl and one is an early bird. My youngest had just started climbing out of his crib when we moved so it was a good time for a big switch anyway. I figured it would make them feel more cozy and on hard days it would teach them about sharing and compromising. It’s been a little over 4 months and its going great! I love knowing that they are together. The funny thing is that we moved from a house half the size and now they want to share, go figure! In the adjoining room (connected by a bathroom) we have the playroom. That means their bedroom houses just two beds, and their clothes.

For the first few weeks, I didn’t have a game plan. My oldest was sleeping on a borrowed bed and my youngest was done with his crib so we went and bought two twin mattress’s and then I froze…  it was bad. IMG_6351

We had the mattress on the floor and an old, broken, garage sale dresser to hold the clothes… so pretty much it looked like a frat house for toddlers.

I googled and pinned fun “shared room” ideas but with the configuration of this room; none of those were going to work. My husband wanted bunk beds but I thought they are too little (not to mention they are hard to make). Then it happened… I found them. Two vintage, wicker headboards painted red.

We already had the quilts, curtains and the world map tapestry. I found the grey striped sheets from target. We had the kids bedrooms painted white when we moved in to brighten it up.

It unintentionally started going a little sailor/nautical/mapish… which I love!

Like I said I used a lot that I had. But I bought a few things for the walls that I loved…

This “dream big little one” growth chart  is from Gus and Lula (zulily deals)

This Sailor Print is from Urban Outfitters (also where the map tapestry is from). The other framed piece is from a shopping bag and I just cut off the handles.

Chalkboard Map Print is from the Caravan Shoppe. This dresser was my husband’s when he was a baby :) I want some wood in there but I don’t know if we should stain it, or maybe even paint the handles?? Any ideas?

It’s still a work in progress like the rest of the house! But it sure beats two mattress on the ground (which I have a feeling the boys didn’t mind as much as I did!) Do your kids share a room? Also, any thoughts on the dresser; what would you do?

a Vintage Superhero Birthday

August 29, 2013 By Taylor 2 Comments

vintage superhero birthday party #superhero #vintage #superman #boy #birthday

A few weeks ago my oldest baby turned 4. I do NOT know how this happened and I didn’t authorize it, but it happened. It’s weird to think I am the Mom to a 4 year old. Sounds pretty official though :)

We decided to keep his party low key this year. But when Minted contacted me about trying out some of their new Party Decor, how could I say no?! If you don’t know Minted, you need to! They are an online  paper store that carries products from Independent designers from all over. They have invitations, art prints, journals, calendars, stationary… I could go on and on. I am a long time Minted lover but have never tried their decor section. I was super surprised with the amount they had to choose from. I even had a hard time narrowing it down,  But then my husband reminded me that my son is a boy. They have so many really cute themes that aren’t over done!

I went with the Super Hero Theme, an instant winner for my boys! The cool thing is they customize your order and you can get everything you need right there in the box! All the decor, stickers, banner etc. even the plates and serving wear!

I ordered the scalloped stickers for the cups and the flag stickers for our Ice Cream Sundae Bar :) I picked up some paper straws too.

The custom bunting was HUGE! And I loved it because we have a long spot to fill over our bar.

We served hot hogs and chips so I used the “eats” signs for the food table. And I used the “sweets” sign for our Ice Cream Bar after dinner. These were custom, you could enter any word to match your party.

I put this smaller banner and the chalkboard behind the food table.

I used kabob sticks and marshmallows to hold up the flags for the ice cream toppings. I love these little flags, it’s just one long sticker that folds in half to make a flag.

Everyone loved all the decor and for a busy family it is so convenient to have everything delivered all in one box! Everyone also loved the ice cream :)

a Modern Baby Boy Quilt

May 1, 2013 By Taylor 28 Comments

With all of my baby girl crafting did you even know I could make something for a boy? I was surprised I still had it in me. I have also been surprised by how many new baby girls there have been around here. But this post isn’t about girls, its about a baby boy. My only girl cousin is due with her first baby this summer and I am so happy for her little family. They will make awesome parents and I can’t wait for the boys to have another “young” relative :)

My mom, sister and I hosted a small family baby shower for Jamie and Baby “E” a few weeks ago. I will share all the shower deets here next week. I wanted to make him something he could keep for a long time so I settled on a quilt. It is modern and bright. The nursery is actually much more neutral but I figured this could be an on-the-go quilt.

I still love this print on the back- I knew I was hoarding it for a good reason.

This is my 4th quilt to actually finish. I also have about 6 unfinished quilt tops. I have not yet worked up the courage to hand quilt the binding… for those of you that do that – Bravo! Anyone else a machine binding cheater like me?
