Cirque Du Bebe themed Baby Shower

You all know my excitement for things related to crafting for baby girls. Imagine my excitement when I found out we would be throwing a girl shower… ahhh- pink! And remember my group of girlfriends called “The Coyotes”? I introduced them properly in THIS post, we have been friends for 20+ years. One of them announced her pregnancy last summer and we obviously started planning the shower right away. But her precious baby girl decided to come too early and had to spend some time in the NICU. She is such a strong healthy girl is currently home now :) We had the shower last week right before she came home.

I was responsible for the decorations and helping set up the headband bar. I really can’t take credit for anything else. Our Theme: Cirque Du Bebe – french circus, pink and grey, elephants, polka dots, stripes and more pink :) I made the GABBY banner with my Cameo, and the ruffled streamers (via MADE).

For the Headband Bar; I made 3 different sized headbands in 6 colors. I also made gift tags that I will share later this week. Then we just got buttons, flowers, sequins, ribbon, felt, and fabric scraps to set on the table. We set out some “instructions” and a hot glue gun. One of the girls found an Eiffel Tower to display the finished headbands on.

The girls did an amazing job with the food.

They even made paper cones for popcorn and “french fires” and displayed them in peanuts in keeping with the French Circus theme.

I also made a bunting using Gabby’s nursery colors so she could use it at home too.

We had a little punch bar complete with mason jars and paper straws.

The cake was not only beautiful but was so good too! I made the cake bunting with the scrap fabric from the name banner. I double sided the flags and glued them to bakers twine.

I have talented friends :)

I made some happy garland (also via MADE), because it’s so easy that I am now addicted to making it. One of the girls brought a baby book to match our theme.

a baby gift and the perfect burp cloths

I thought I liked making baby gifts a few years ago because I had babies. But now that I have toddlers, I like making baby gifts even more. Especially if you are having a girl, I have to throw something homemade in… all of those stacks and stacks of girly fabric are going to become “vintage” before I get to use them. So, I made three burp cloths (using my favorites- gerber’s cloth diapers) and added girly fabric.

This is what I have learned from making and owning many burp cloths. If fabric is on both sides or it’s too thick it doesn’t absorb well. Also, you could have issues with washing the gunk out :/ Gross. So, I keep it as thin as possible. For the ones with the strip at the bottom, I measure the total width of the burp cloth by 3ish inches. Then I serge a piece of fabric that exact size and attach it to the cloth diaper. If you don’t have a serger, then just make the fabric a little larger and fold/press it down to the correct size. I added a ribbon right on top of this one.

You can also use the same technique but attach your fabric down that middle section of the cloth diaper.

Or you can add an applique of another fabric on top.

This brand is my particular favorite, the no name cloth diapers are too long. The cute terry cloth burp cloths are way too thin. Obviously I’m a burp cloth connoisseur. Another tip is when you clean up a baby mess, try to wash these as soon as possible, they are 3-ply so they will mildew if they sit for too long.

Simple easy gift that you know will get used more than almost everything :) Here are some simple boys ones I made a few years ago, not as cute as girl ones though.

I also whipped up some happy garland via MADE. I was looking for an excuse to make some and this little girls nursery is grey, cream, purples and coral. I couldn’t find coral felt though… but I still love it.

Ruffled Lace Headwrap

In case you missed this post, here it is… I was lucky enough to get to be a part of See Kate Sew‘s Ruffles Series. I’m sure I’ve mentioned it a few times, but Kate is truly one of my all time favorite bloggers, she has a unique vintage style and she is always original. I have also told her I think she used to be a clothing model :) Her Ruffles 2012 Series was amazing! Here is my ruffly contribution:

I’m so honored to be a part of the very famous “Ruffles 2012 Series”! I have to admit, I’m not a super frilly girl and I have two sons so I was stumped for a bit when Kate asked me to work with ruffles. Then I realized, I can make ruffles work with my style. So I came up with this Ruffled Lace Headwrap. I love headbands and headwraps, so why not have some ruffles?You need two strips for fabric – both about 58″ x 3″. I used solid yellow for the back and scraps for the front that I pieced together.

Then you need to taper the ends. Pencil it as a cutting guide then cut and pin right sides together.

Then sew leaving one end open and flip right side out.

Cut lace 2″ wide.

My favorite… the RUFFLE FOOT :)

Pin the ruffled lace to the center of the headwrap and sew. Only add the lace to about 8″-10″ or you won’t be able to tie your headwrap in the back.

And now you have your ruffly, fun headwrap.

The Bow Clutch

You know the saying great minds think alike? Well this happens in the art world, about 5x a week for me. Artists/crafters/creators get inspiration from everywhere and even subconsciously. So last week I “thought” of a great idea… how about a bow on the front of a clutch. Not novel, but I thought it was an original idea of mine. Then the day after I whipped it up, I saw this post from a blog called Simply Homemade. It’s like the fraternal twin of my bow clutch. In the past I might have been like who thought of this first? Well, since either of us invited a bow, or a clutch now I just think it is cool that two random strangers thought of making the same thing at the same time… I guess great minds do think alike :)

For my clutch, I used a different fabric for the bow and the lining and of course I used linen for the main part of the bag. I have a linen obsession. I don’t have a full tutorial, but basically you make a standard clutch or zippered pouch for the unfancy and you cut an extra piece for the bow that is a little larger. I serged the edges and hemmed the edge of the bow. Then I made a little piece of bias tape for the center of the bow. Then, I just sandwiched the bow when I stacked the layers for the clutch. Cute with endless color options. I also added a label to the inside.

I think my colors are so festive- I made this for a gift exchange because what girl can’t use an extra clutch? Perfect for wearing or giving at a Holiday Party.
